Still, Metropolis (1927)
Another great shot from the amazing Metropolis. I’ve seen some shots of the set/model makers putting this together. Will try to find some!
tautological:

Metropolis (1927)

“Metropolis features special effects and set designs that still impress modern audiences with their visual impact – the film contains cinematic and thematic links to German Expressionism, though the architecture as portrayed in the film appears based on contemporary Modernism and Art Deco. The latter, a brand-new style in Europe at the time, had not reached mass production yet and was considered an emblem of the bourgeois class, and similarly associated with the ruling class in the film.”

"Utamoh Thumo" - MetropolisDigital Art by leeshackleton
First of several great Metropolis-themed pieces I’ll be posting by leeshackleton.
From the artist:

A piece I did for Uni on Fritz Lang’s 1927 Metropolis.
We had to produce concept art for a modern-day version of either Metropolis or Day of The Triffids, I chose Metropolis as it seemed more appealing to me.I produced the Tower of Babel in 3DS MAX, I did this by using a 90 degree cylinder and using the array tool to wrap it around, it made the process a whole lot simpler, then I used the extrude tool and tried getting a close representation of Fritz work. I then added “Greeble” (a plug-in for 3DS max to make everything look like the Death Star) to the tower to give it that sense of depth & power.
