Thanks for the suggestion. I will go look for some photos, recent and vintage. Here is one I just found on Flickr of the interior. Wow.

Great 1936 photo capturing, among other things, the “other” G.E. Building.
From “Changing New York: Photographs by Berenice Abbott, 1935-1938,” available through the NY Public Library Digital Gallery. (See also the book of the same name.)

The fabulous, fabulous GE Building in NYC. So over the top!
So, a lot of people going to New York City for sightseeing/touristy stuff probably won’t see or pay attention to this awesome building. I think it might be one of my favorite buildings to look at in New York City. The Empire State Building is of course a lovely building, lights up at night, bunch of different colors, interior is art deco to the max. It has a lot of history and it was the tallest skyscraper in the world for a good long time.
Now, my favorite building (at least for right now) is the GE Building on Lexington Ave, not to be confused with the one at Rockefeller Center. This building has so many little details and bad ass masonry. Plus, the crown of the building 640 feet up which hardly anybody sees in detail is friggen amazing!

“There Are Still More Reasons Why Art Deco Makes New York Great”
Video by Alan G. Wasenius (awaseniu)
Finally, the last of 4 videos by the same filmmaker on New York and Arc Deco. Unless I find another one on YouTube.
From the creator:
The fourth installment of the Alan G. Wasenius video set. This set includes a place where there was a mafia shooting, and a former women’s hotel. The structures included, the Beekman Tower, and the original General Electric Building.
