Doors, Bretagne, France
by Jean-Patrick Leroy
Several doors in the town of Bretagne in far northwest France.
P.S. Not thrilled with Tumblr’s new slide show tool. Seems much more difficult, though hopefully I get the hang of it.

I have always wanted glass doorknobs like these ones offered at The Door Store, a Toronto company or big personal favorite Rejuvenation (Portland, OR). The link for an even larger selection of these is here.

Brass & Bronze Doorknobs and Plates
by The Door Store
See pics of old doorknobs and say to yourself, “I want that!” Well, you can. And this Toronto company has the Flickr stream to show you. Many of these are reproductions. I’ll be posting a bunch of sets. The link for an even larger selection of historic brass and bronze doorknobs is here. I will be including mostly Art Deco but also some Art Nouveau.

A friend just moved into a house built in the 1930’s. Every inside door has a glass knob and Deco plate like this one.

Deco Doorknob

Start of a new series: Doorknobs, doors and possibly other architectural elements, like radiators, grilles, windows, lights, etc.
From Flickr:
My friend K is moving into an old 1930s house that had a single owner until now. There are a few interesting details.
The contractors who were supposed to be painting, fixing the floor, putting in kitchen cabinets, etc. “lost” all the art deco doorknobs that were on every door — except this one.
Every other door currently has NO doorknob (except for the outside doors which had had theirs replaced previously). You can see the marks on the doors around the art deco shape where the doorknobs are missing.
What’s worse, the doors and the drill holes are nonstandard sizes, so it is a pain to replace all the knobs, though at least the landlord is paying.
I used Hipstamatic on the iPhone for these pics. It was nighttime and I used no flash, but I like the way they turned out anyway.
