Beautiful, beautiful streamline warehouse for Hecht’s department store chain.

Building/structure dates: 1937 initial construction
Significance: Originally constructed to serve the retail  activities of a major local merchant, the Hecht Company Warehouse is an  outstanding example of Art Deco (Streamline Modern) which stands as one  of the major triumphs of inter-war modernism in Washington, D.C.  The  significance of the Hecht Company Warehouse is tied to its innovative  Streamline Modern architecture, early and extensive use of glass block,  and importance to the city’s economic heritage.
